As part of the French National Committee to welcome the 2014 IFLA WLIC, Lyon Public Library is preparing a cultural event linked with the WLIC theme “libraries, citizens, societies: confluence for knowledge” to open the congress for our patrons, and to share our collections and issues with the delegates that will visit our libraries. We invited visual artist Zoè Benoit to participate in the project and produce a contemporary art work that incorporates crowd sourced material from the global library community.
Zoè is working on a digital sound artwork called “bibliobeep”, a collection of soundscapes of library “beeps” from around the world. It will be a work in progress presented on our digital library, Numelyo.
Just record a "library sound" in MP3 format, using cell phone for example, and upload!
We are looking for one-minute recordings of background noises occurring at library checkout points and returns, including: electronic "beep" sounds, sounds of books or other library media being handled, words exchanged, etc. To properly record a sound, position yourself near the offices where you can hear especially machine "beeps" that incorporate the voices and sounds of library staff and the materials they handle.
Then upload your MP3 file on Numelyo, where you will be able to listen to your sound and discover various “bibliobeeps” from around the world!
