On Sunday 17 August, in the presence of more than 4000 librarians from around the world, the Archives, Libraries and Documentation Inter-association (IABD- Interassociation Archives Bibliothèques Documentation) signed a declaration supporting the need for an international copyright framework on exceptions and limitations for libraries and archives.
The IABD is an umbrella association representing the thirteen varied library and information, archive and documentation associations in France. The declaration was signed in person during the Exhibition opening of the 80th WLIC by a number of representatives from the associations, as well as by IFLA President Sinikka Sipilä and IFLA President-Elect Donna Scheeder.
Their endorsement of IFLA’s advocacy at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) comes at a crucial moment in negotiations following the break down of the past two meetings. The European Union has been most vocal at WIPO in opposing discussions of an international framework on copyright exceptions for libraries and archives.
