Members of the IFLA Governing Board and Stichting IFLA Global Libraries (SIGL) Foundation Board are very pleased to have been able meet on Friday 29 July 2022 in Dublin following IFLA WLIC 2022 to discuss areas of mutual interest and concern.

SIGL is an independent charity established in 2016 to manage the Global Libraries Legacy grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It supports the work of IFLA by funding special projects and ongoing costs through Joint Agreement that strengthens the library field and empowers public libraries to improve people’s lives and support the growth of sustainable societies.

The outcome of the meeting was a clearer understanding and appreciation of each other’s distinctive roles and responsibilities. Both Boards recognise the importance of the relationship and have discussed how they will continue to work collaboratively in the future and effectively to achieve their shared outcomes.

IFLA will continue to develop and decide on its own plans and budgets, which SIGL will continue to financially support in line with the Joint Agreement.

Both Boards agreed to meet again before the end of the year to further develop the collaboration and to inform each other on a regular basis.
