I’m happy to be writing to you, just a day after the IFLA Governing Board’s first in-person meeting of the year has come to an end! It was great to see colleagues together in The Hague for a really positive and productive meeting – the three days flew by, but I believe that we are making excellent progress against the commitments set out in August of last year.
Over the coming months, IFLA will be asking for feedback from its members and volunteers regarding their perspectives, desires, and experiences regarding the World Library and Information Congress (WLIC). This will enable the WLIC Review Steering Committee to adequately assess the needs and the views of IFLA members and volunteers.
While we don’t have a meeting of our Governing Board this month, I nonetheless wanted to write to you to highlight a couple of key areas of work and upcoming opportunities for you in the coming weeks.

IFLA is proud to announce the Information Futures Summit, hosted by IFLA President Vicki McDonald, and under the theme Stronger Together. Join us from 30 September to 3 October 2024 in Brisbane, Australia.
Following a call for applications in April 2023, the Governing Board has appointed Martyn Wade to the position of IFLA Parliamentarian. The appointment was made after a thorough review process of applicants.

Over three days, IFLA’s Governing Board met for its first in-person meeting since Rotterdam, in a week that marked 100 days since it took office. The time spent together was an opportunity not just to look back at what had been achieved, but also to advance key projects, opening the way to further delivery in 2024.
This week the IFLA Governing Board met in The Hague, The Netherlands. The meeting coincided with our first 100 days.
I would like to share the news that following the Governing Board meeting of 9 November 2023, we are planning to relaunch the IFLA’s President’s Meeting.
IFLA’s Governing Board met online on 9 November 2023. A key item on the agenda was planning for events in 2024 in the absence of a WLIC (World Library and Information Congress). Wider plans for 2024 were also high on the agenda.
On 3 October 2023, the Secretary General and I advised the IFLA membership and community that the Emirates Library and Information Association had withdrawn their invitation to hold the 2024 World Library and Information Congress in Dubai.

At the end of IFLA’s Closing Ceremony, our current Governing Board will end its term, and a new one take up its mandate. The outgoing Board met for the last time, on 19 August, at the Ahoy Convention Centre in Rotterdam.
