UK’s Crown Copyright and the Government Web

    In the UK, all material produced by civil servants, ministers and government departments and agencies in the course of their work belongs to the Crown and is Crown copyright. The material covered ranges from public records, government reports and legislation to Ordnance Survey maps, government reports and official press releases, and even academic articles sponsored by government departments. IFLA Government Libraries Section Information Coordinator, Jonathan Ginn covers the bases.

        Government Libraries Section - Berlin Satellite Meeting 2017

          The Government Libraries Section is pleased to invite government librarians and information professionals to its satellite meeting in Berlin on 25-26 August, following the 2017 WLIC in Wroclaw. Graciously hosted by the Bundestag Library, the morning theme of the workshop on Friday 25 August will be the revision of Guidelines for Libraries of Government Departments focussing on Chapter 11 Advocacy, and how these can tie in with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Early booking is advised as places are limited.

          Call for Presentations - Government Libraries Section, WLIC 2017

            The Government Libraries, Library and Research Services for Parliaments and Law Libraries Sections invite proposals for presentations, to be presented as one of the sessions in the next IFLA General Conference to be held on August 2017 in Wroclaw, Poland. We welcome proposals from individuals and organizations who can share views and implementations on Government/Parliamentary libraries helping to deliver the access to information elements of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The deadline for submissions is 3 March 2017.​

            Satellite Meeting on Government Libraries - Berlin 2017

              Linking Advocacy to UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The Government Libraries Section is hosting a satellite meeting to be held in Berlin, Germany just after the IFLA annual conference - WLIC 2017. We will revise the Guidelines for Libraries of Government Departments, in particular chapter 11, related to advocacy, tying it with the aspects of public access to information of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

              GLS Social Media Communication Plan 2017-2019

              1 February 2017

                IFLA Government Libraries Section (GLS) intends to continue communicating its activities and achievements to the international library community from all corners of the globe. For this reason, GLS considers it relevant to propose a communication strategy for 2017-2019, focusing on social media. The activities of the Plan should help to consolidate a vibrant international community of librarians and information professionals interested in government libraries.

                Remembering Maija Jussilainen

                  Last Easter we got sad news when our colleague Maija Jussilainen passed away due to cancer. As information management professional, she was very active in IFLA's Government Libraries and Government Information and Official Publications Sections.

                  Taller de la IFLA sobre transparencia y buen gobierno: Argentina

                    El 28 de septiembre de 2011, en coincidencia con el “Día del acceso a la información”, se realizó en Buenos Aires el Taller sobre transparencia y buen gobierno, patrocinado por IFLA LAC, IFLA FAIFE y la Biblioteca del Congreso (Argentina). A cargo de Paul Sturges, de la Universidad de Loughborough, Inglaterra, y de Alejandra Martínez del Prado, del Sistema de Bibliotecas de la Facultad de Medicina de la UNAM, el taller invitó al intercambio de ideas y opiniones para reflexionar sobre cómo pueden contribuir las bibliotecas al buen gobierno y la transparencia.

                    IFLA workshop on transparency and good governance: Argentina

                      On September 28, 2011, simultaneously with the “Access to information day”, the Workshop on transparency and good governance was carried out in Buenos Aires. Cosponsored by IFLA LAC, IFLA FAIFE and the Library of Congress of Argentina, the workshop was delivered by Paul Sturges, from the University of Loughborough, England, and by Alejandra Martínez del Prado, from the System of Libraries of the School of Medicine (UNAM), contributing to the exchange of ideas on how libraries can contribute to good governance and transparency.
